Artist Statement
Charlotte Mukahirn creates mixed media drawings, digital paintings, and graphic novels based on her own dreams and imagination. She primarily uses graphite, ink, gouache, and color pencil in her works or creates digital paintings using a tablet and simulated oil paint using Corel Painter 12. When creating a piece, she will first roughly sketch her dreams and scenes from her imagination to the best of her memory before moving on to the final piece. She considers dreams to be an important window into her perception of reality. To her, dreams are a distillation of her daily experiences and current state of being which are then reconstructed into scenarios that range from mundane to bizarre. Her work is an invitation into a world that is inaccessible to others without her own representation of her experiences.
